Paraffin wax is a petroleum byproduct. Synthetic fragrance legally conceals hundreds of undisclosed chemicals — including hormone disruptors linked to perimenopause symptoms, burnout, and disrupted sleep. Most luxury candles and diffusers use both. Most brands don't tell you.

When burned, it releases chemicals including benzene and toluene — both classified as carcinogens. House of Intent uses 100% plant-based coconut and rapeseed wax.

In the UK and EU, brands can list 'fragrance' as a single ingredient and conceal hundreds of chemicals inside it. We use only pure essential oils — every ingredient is exactly what it says.

Two neighbours in Little Baddow, Essex — with very different but equally full lives. Amanda: two decades in corporate life, two children, perimenopause arriving quietly in the background. Michele: former model, breast cancer survivor, a woman who had spent years questioning everything she brought into her home.
Friday evenings became their ritual — wine, candles, honest conversation. One evening Michele picked up the candle she had burned for years, the expensive one she had always trusted, and read the label properly for the first time. Paraffin wax. Synthetic fragrance. Hormone-disrupting chemicals concealed behind a single word.
