House of Intent began with a simple question.
We’re Amanda and Michele - two neighbours living in the Essex countryside who have always loved candles.
And for years we bought expensive, luxury candles. We loved the scent, the glow, the atmosphere they created.
But life has a way of making you look at things differently.
Michele had just come through breast cancer and Amanda was navigating perimenopause.
Suddenly we started questioning the ingredients in the products we were bringing into our homes.
Food.
Skincare.
Cleaning products.
And eventually… candles.
What we discovered surprised us.
Many candles - even expensive ones - are made using paraffin wax (often marketed as mineral wax) and synthetic fragrance designed for maximum scent throw.
Ingredient lists were vague, simply called 'fragrance' or 'natural fragrance' with no real transparency.
And once we knew that, we couldn’t 'un-know' it.
If we were going to light candles in our homes we wanted to know exactly what we were burning.
So we decided to create something different.
House of Intent was founded as a clean alternative to traditional candles.
