Fragrance

Fragrance is what you actually inhale. Wax is the carrier. What you smell, you breathe. That’s why we only use 100% essential oils in our candles, to create beautiful, supporting fragrance, that softly envelopes you and your home, supporting your well-being rather than overpowering.

Essential Oils vs Synthetic Fragrance

Some brands prefer to use synthetic fragrance to avoid pressure on certain botanicals. We agree the planet matters - which is why we source essential oils responsibly, avoid oils linked to vulnerable supply chains, and prioritise traceability. We also choose not to use generic synthetic'fragrance blends', because they can be complex mixtures and may include ingredients that are flagged by regulators for health concerns, including endocrine-disrupting properties (for example, parabens and phthalates). Synthetic fragrance can include substances classified as CMR ( carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction) but because of what's allowed legally to be classified as 'fragrance' the consumer is often left being unaware of these risks.

We wanted to build natural, complex scent profiles that feel atmospheric, not artificial (we were constantly getting headaches from synthetic candles). Every oil can be identified, not hidden behind ‘fragrance’ on an ingredient list – we were simply not prepared to add in synthetic fragrances that can disrupt our well-being. So, after months and months of testing, we slowly created our 5 signature blends of the Luxury Bio Candle. Hand mixed, each blend has a minimum of 8-10 pure essential oils, chosen for their well-being supporting properties and their beautiful scents. No hidden ingredients, just intentional transparency.

‘Natural’ Fragrance Oils

Many luxury candles still rely on paraffin wax and synthetic fragrance, wrapped in branding that leans on words like 'natural', 'clean' and 'botanical.' The problem is that these are often marketing cues, not ingredient guarantees. In home fragrance, 'fragrance' can be a catch-all term for a proprietary blend, and consumers are rarely told what’s actually in it. Current regulations still allow candle companies to use CMR fragrance ingredients, so the only real protection is to educate yourself, read the small print and demand better.

That’s why our standard is different: plant-based wax, pure essential oils, CMR free, phthalate free and paraben free - and no mystery fragrance blends - because what you burn becomes part of your indoor air, and we believe that should be as clean as your standards.

Paraben Free is not the whole story

There are a few brands that have gone a step further to use paraben free fragrance oils in their candles. Although this is a step in the right direction, parabens are only one small group of preservatives. There can still be solvents and carriers used in the fragrance and can contain CMR-classified substances.
For us, the more meaningful standard is simple:
• No synthetic fragrance oils
• No added CMR-classified fragrance components
• Essential oils only
A candle should be something you enjoy burning every day, without having to question what’s in the air around you.
